Josh Magennis Joins Exeter City

Exeter City has secured the services of Northern Ireland striker Josh Magennis on a one-year contract, the Club announced yesterday. The 33-year-old forward recently parted ways with Wigan Athletic at the end of the season. Magennis, who boasts 79 international caps, aims to continue his impressive career and potentially reach the coveted 100-cap milestone for Northern Ireland. His experience and goal-scoring prowess will undoubtedly bolster Exeter City’s attacking options.

Talking to the Club social media team, Josh said:-

This has been in the works for a while, and the communication has been nothing but positive throughout, so it feels really good to get it over the line. I think there’s a lot more that goes into football matches than the 90 minutes, and it he reiterated the dynamic he expects from me in the dressing room whether I’m playing or not.

That’s me helping the youngsters and pushing others forward, as well as helping my own career. I was lucky enough to be captain [at Wigan] last season and enjoyed that role, I enjoy carrying the mantle of being a senior player so hopefully I can use that as a positive.

This is a prestigious club, it’s a fan run club with emotion, and community focused and I’ve seen that early on. At no point did I come here and think my international career wouldn’t continue to flourish and progress.

The boss Caldwell said of his signing

Josh is someone that had plenty of options this summer but has chosen to come to Exeter City, and of course we are delighted with that.

He is a real proven goalscorer at this level, and the level above, as well as having great international pedigree with Northern Ireland. His experience will be of huge benefit to our younger forwards such as Sonny Cox and Milli Alli.
