But the government couldn’t choose to follow every opinion, not least one rubbished by experts - as its aim was to protect the economy whilst squashing a bloody great sombrero i.e not at all costs.
"Experts" - just with their opinion.

Dr Steve James (the unvaccinated one) given air time on GB News tonight where he was somewhat celebrated.

He spoke a lot of sense but his most interesting point was to point out that the country went fairly quickly from "the vaccine is good at reducing the risk of death to the elderly, obese and vulnerable" to just "the vaccine is good" with no real science to back the latter statement up. And it's concerning that it ended up being the definitive narrative with anyone questioning being treated with contempt.
Because the 'anyone' usually deserve to be treated with contempt. People who actually know about these things, do the actual research (which doesn't involve trawling Facebook), have worked in that particular field all their professional lives, tended to broadly agree with 'the science'. Idiots claiming conspiracy theories, cover ups, it's all a con, they're not telling me what to do are just that: idiots.

Everyone's entitled to an opinion, but that doesn't mean every opinion deserves be given the same weight. Some opinions are contemptable. I don't know the doctor in question, nor his field, but 'doctor' doesn't necessarily make you an expert. If your specialist field was heart surgery, it doesn't necessarily mean you know everything there is to know about virology and contagions. Plus, even when there is 'real science' to back statements up, you still get the loons who think otherwise.

Ref the vaccine -

We also went from just needing to vaccinate the vulnerable amongst us, to everyone under the sun needing it and not being able to participate in certain aspects of society without it at a rapid pace.

Given that we can now see it acts poorly at stopping spread, the fact immunity starts to wain after a month or two, plus taking into account the vast majority's risk profile when it comes to Covid, the argument for mass vaccination every few months is very weak indeed.

I am hoping on this basis any ideas of a vaccine passport are forgotten about ASAP. They are absolutely pointless unless the jab stops you from carrying and spreading, which it doesn't.

I also really hope the government have a U turn on mandatory NHS vaccines, I think circa 70,000 are due to be sacked in April, look at the chaos we have had in the NHS with about 30,000 in isolation, it's a terrible idea.

You missed out the bit where earlier variants hospitalised circa 20% of infections and the current one is very much milder than the delta variant.
You talk as if the Covid threat hasn’t changed.

Did it? Or were the infections happening in hospital whilst being treated for other things?

So the really catchy variant is not catching in hospitals? Or is no one going to the hospital now?
