Italy won’t be going..Lost 1-0 at home to North Macedonia in the SF play off.
Rejoice !Italy won’t be going..Lost 1-0 at home to North Macedonia in the SF play off.
Remember them losing to North Korea in the 1966 World Cup...Italy won’t be going..Lost 1-0 at home to North Macedonia in the SF play off.
Wales at home, so likely Cardiff. There is a chance of a rematch of the infamous game in Oct 1977 when Scotland beat Wales at Anfield to qualify for Argentina ‘78.
The Scots are due to play Ukraine in a World Cup SF PO. The winners play Wales.
Anyone know where the venue will be if the Scots do meet Wales ?
One things for sure, the FAW if it is the Welsh who have home advantage will not make the dumb decision to play outside the principality as they did in 1977..The match against Scotland was to
have been played at Wrexham. Ninian Park was off limits after crowd trouble post a Euro Q/F against Yugoslavia the previous year.
The FAW moved the game to Anfield simply because they would get better gate receipts.
I went to a friendly between Wales and Argentina at the Millennium Stadium in 2002.Wales at home, so likely Cardiff.
Saw Cardiff 1 Real Madrid 0 there in 1971 cup-winners cup.I think I can justify this post as it’s mainly about Ninian Park.
I was in Cardiff city centre a while ago with my wife and granddaughter.
I left them shopping and walked down to look at the (new to me) Cardiff City Stadium.
It must have been just after Emiliano Sala died as there were numerous tributes to him outside.
I was aware that the stadium had been built opposite the old Ninian Park one, which is now housing.
So I had a stroll around there too.
They’ve got the point marked where the centre spot would have been.
It got me thinking about all the fantastic captains that would have stood there shaking hands before a match.
I absolutely love walking around empty football stadiums. I could (and do) spend hours doing it.
I don’t mind going into them and watching the occasional match as well!
This is off topic so I’ll keep it short.Saw Cardiff 1 Real Madrid 0 there in 1971 cup-winners cup.
Wow me too. Only football match my father ever went to.Saw Cardiff 1 Real Madrid 0 there in 1971 cup-winners cup.
