Peter Purves 84 today. Best known as a presenter on Blue Peter from 1967-78 for people of a certain age.
Other gigs include presenting Kick Start the popular motorcycle trials competition programme(1981-92)
He had a run(46 episodes) as one Dr Who’s assistants in 1965-66.

Is that Petra or Patch in the photo with him ?

In the early 1980's I worked for the BBC Architects Dept on plans for extending the BBC Television Centre. This involved the relocation of the Blue Peter garden. My boss ended up making an awkward embarrassing live appearance on Blue Peter, to explain to the kiddies why it was necessary to exhume Petra's corpse and relocate her ! :)

He always takes the time to reply on Twitter if he’s mentioned.
A regular at many music gigs back in the day by the sound of it.

Another blast from the past from the same era as Peter Purves is a children’s programme I’d forgotten about.. We Are The Champions, presented by Ron Pickering(1930-91) Pickering was associated with commentary for British Field Athletics.
The original series ran from 1973 to 1987, usually 7 episodes per series. The format was a Schools Sport Day which included a Swimming Pool at a Leisure Centre.
I wonder if Freddie & the boys lifted the title for one of their well known compositions 🎶😎

Tucked away on Westward TV at 6.30pm is A Date With Danton. Graham Danton was the weatherman on Westward TV who also had his own short regional news magazine show during the Westward TV era.
Later it was shifted to a late Friday night slot.
Danton’s day job was At Plymouth Polytechnic lecturing on Seamanship. He wrote a few books on the subject after a earlier career on the ocean wave.
He was a BBC Devon Sunday Afternoon presenter until 2009.

I used to watch that as a kid every time. It always ended with Ron shouting "away you go" as a signal for all the kids to run and jump in to the pool.
