No, but that's not the point. If a club signs a mature player (someone over the age of 21) I would expect them to be ready to play for the first team, not take a few months to get up to speed. We wont agree on this, you have your view and I have mine, which is fine.
I dont understand the issue about the big jump from NL to league 1. If a player is good enough, for example, can control a football, pass it to a player they intend to get the ball to, run with it, etc...whatever is the requirement or their strength, they should be good enough for whichever...
At the moment, off the pitch, we seem a well run, stable, financially safe club which provides the management team (any management team) a solid base. I suspect that we'll see 'basket case' clubs more often in league 1, as teams are relegated from the Championship, or promoted from league 2...
The income from player sales is clearly important but I'd anticipate that part of the relatively new Chief Exec and Chief Financial Officer's job descriptions would (or should) include a requirement to increase income from non player sales, in order to make our playing budget competitive. We've...
I dont think the players are capable of successfully delivering the style of football that the manager wants to implement and I also dont think the tactical approach is sensible in League 1. It becomes more appropriate as you move up the leagues, where players are technically adept, with pace...
I haven't got a coaching badge nor see the players in training every day, so I cant say what tactics we should apply but I do know that the current tactics arent overly effective and GC's post match interview today, and following other previous games seems to confirm this.
Simply not capable of Gazball. First half, Jules appeared to be refusing to pass to Woods, and Sweeney was refusing to deliver a forward pass to Eiss, when he was making runs between two defenders. I cant imagine that Caldwell instructs them not to pass, but that they either haven't got the...
I think the reality is that most of our players aren't upper league 1 quality and the results through the course of the season will bear this out at the season end.
The players simply can't deliver the football tactic that the manager seeks but he appears not pragmatic enough to try and apply...
The critical issue will be the Summer recruitment. If he can sign enough players for the squad to deliver his preferred style of play, it may prove successful. My difficulty is that I can well remember Gerry Francis trying to play top level football in the equivalent of league 1, with league 2...
I know this will be anathema to a lot of people but I think that Paul Tisdale would make an excellent Director of Football, in the same way that Steve Perryman appeared to provide very positive mentoring for managers.
The point is that we know GC will not change his approach. His interviews from pre ECFC days indicate that he takes his mantra from Martinez, namely determine your preferred playing style and stick with it, until it works.
From his recent interviews and Fans Forum presentation, it's clear that...
