No one in their right mind would turn down the contract Alfie has now earned,
Andy, you have misread my post. I said neither him or the club would have turned down the development contract he has now got from Wolves. However, a contract at the end of this season with 20 odd starts in League One would clearly have been significantly higher than one based purely on potential alone.

Saw him play for Wolves under 21 today at Arsenal (I live very near to Boreham Wood FC where Arsenal ladies and youth play). Played well on the whole. Won everything in the air and comfortable on the ball. He won some good tackles. He did however make one horrendous mistake when he gave the ball away just outside his own box but Arsenal missed the resulting one on one with the keeper. Definitely not of place at Premier league under 21 level.

Agent Andy is basically Alfie’s father. Have we not figured this one out yet?!

Next time you see him tell Alfie "Grecians NEED You" so we get a Xmas pressie - obviously he will play for us for nought on loan given we taught him all he knows

transferring this topic over from the 'former players' thread. A few interesting things on the Wolves website showing how Alfie is developing.

0-0 v Man Utd U21s (losing on penalties). Previous game against Porto U21/Porto B lost 1-0, with the other centre half subbed. A clip of Alfie clearing off the line. So those scores show how solidly he's defending - 1 goal conceded in 180 minutes against that opposition is a strong outcome.

It is now being said (in the report above) that the U21s will train with the Wolves first team for the new manager to take a look - and then retain some and return others to the U21s. So its possible that Alfie will get a chance to pitch for a first team squad position.

But if not, then a loan out ? Say to a League One team which is a bit short of central defenders? Wolves elimination by Man U from a competition with many games to play reduces the extent of top quality experience later this season, so...

Wolves sign 32 year old central defender Dawson from West Ham for £3.3m. Alfie Pond hasn't made the Wolves first team 18 yet. Gone one further down the pecking order.

Needs some games somewhere in men's football for further development before taking Dawson's place in 18 months time.

Aye. Alfie's talent being wasted. Does my head in what these big clubs do to young players, Thought Wolves were better than the likes of Chelsea.
