In thinking about the Cliff Hill energy situation again I have come to the conclusion that the optimum situation would be to use wind power. I say this for the following reasons:-

  • Solar generation declines in winter whereas wind generation would be at its highest. This is obviously at a time when most energy is needed.
  • Wind generation has a 24 hour generation period so more could be generated whilst little is used overnight. This would make battery storage highly desirable or could be directly used for heating or water heating in a tank.
  • Wind equipment is cheaper to buy than solar.
  • Planning is considered permitted development for wind turbines up to 11.1 metres.

Does the new building include solar panels on the roof?

No but, if you go to the minutes of the trust open morning at the Phoenix Centre way back when, there is an answer as to why not there - somewhere. Part of the reasoning is the super efficiency of the building and it's heat retention.

Plus heating the water for showers and powering the cooking, washing kit and plates etc. These might sound small but, add them all together and they use large amounts of squiglys.
