Al, you were right about James Hildreth. He's picked up a hamstring injury and will retire with immediate effect.

I was originally pretty angry at the loss of the best players from the RL to the wretched Hundred but it has given opportunities to young players who have impressed. Some bright Somerset youngsters have emerged despite the defeats.
Especially good if Alfie Ogborne progresses, as a left-arm bowler is always useful.

He looked an excellent prospect and as you say left arm bowlers give a side a good option. I also liked his attitude: really pleased to be playing and engaged with the crowd, especially the kids on the boundary fence seeking autographs and selfies. He also batted very sensibly with Ben Green when Ben ran amok in the Durham game.

The Cricinfo site wrongly describes him as a right arm medium pacer. He is quicker than that and definitely not a right handed bowler.

Sadly a 6th successive RL defeat for The Cidermen today in a rain affected DLS decided match. :(

Not sure I will be rocking up for the final home game on Friday in the circumstances of this being a dead match.

Bazball appears not to have got into South African heads as much as suggested by Ben Stokes.

Horrible innings defeat and the lucrative Saturday wiped out. Serves the cricket authorities right for starting the test on a Wednesday. Feckin' dire.

Hants and Zummerset seem to have their backs against the wall in the RL today as well, not a good day Al !

With England humiliated and both Hampshire and Somerset losing it has indeed been a grim cricket day here at Tedburn Towers :(

Hampshire have at worst a bastardised QF in the RL and it is still in their hands to get the automatic home SF with a very young team. A poor performance against the Welsh at Neath today after 5 consecutive wins though.

As for Somerset, a disappointing 7th consecutive defeat in the RL. Just not competitive in this gig.

A nice bottle of Macon rouge has improved my mood :)
