I liked the Exeter City goalkeeper goes to university one, proving that "proper chap" wasn't in fact a concept invented by Paul Tisdale after all. Who would have thought?

Great nostalgia - if a bit chilling to remember! Used to have to dodge the slates and stones coming up over the back of the Barn Park end!

Mr Oldsmobile is spot on in recollections. I was there Boxing Day 77 and it was a few seasons before we went down there in decent numbers. There'd been a few years of 2 divisions separation and we'd been in the 4th Div for a while where there was very little away travel at that time anyway.

It wasn't just Home Park. The only decent away support we took would be to Plainmore where we would totally take over and Newport... iirc. Our away support is fantastic now for a club our size and a much more pleasant culture (non-hoolie).

That archive is full of errors (obv Plymouth not Torquay) but amazing to watch. Thanks for highlighting Mark Tyler!

Enjoyed the City v Rovers clip fm 1980...a Kellow tap in, Terry Cooper off the line, a class Hatch/Delve/Pullar dinked free kick.

The Gary Megson 'trip' on the pitch invader was pretty good too.

Regarding segregation, in the early 1970's we used to stand behind the goal we were attacking and at half time change round, quite often meeting the away fans coming down to their second half end, round the back of the Cowshed. No fighting just a lot of gesticulating

plymouth used to get put in st James road end .They had that famous banner up on the fence in the mid seventies proclaiming they were all ****ing mental .No change there then.

Indeed they did mate...The first time we played them for years in 1976,for the League Cup game..There were a few in the Cowshed as well, but generally there was no real segregation....Just recalling the aforementioned match.It was Bank Holiday Monday with a 7.45 pm KO. !..There was so much aggro around the town in the day, the Old Bill rounded up Argyle followers and kept them in Northernhay park for a few hours to calm things down..

That 1976 League Cup game at SJP brings back memories ,remember walking back to our car with 3/4 mates and a car went past full of lads our age ,slowed down and shouted to us "You Argyle ? " we told them where to go and as we drove down past the Prison we saw a young lad laying on the floor with a couple of other motorists around him so we stopped and the young lad was a Argyle fan who had been hit by someone from the car that stopped ,he was hit with a Hammer ! ,Thankfully he recovered and the Lads were imprisoned for the deed ,thank goodness things have moved on in Exeter since then .

Yes, I remember that..There were a few nasty incidents..In the game at SJP in 1979 the Police Operation covering potential aggro was called Operation Aggro !..I kid you not..There were rumours,that the Police took seriously,that a Janner was coming to the match with a gun. .Unbelievable now looking back...
Another horrible incident, was when a supporters bus from Chester was bricked at Paris St,Roundabout after leaving the coach station.A 10 year old lad on the coach was hit by flying glass & had to stay in Hospital for a couple of days..

Interesting stuff Mr Tyler. Sadly the violence clip reminds of just how basic and casual hooliganism was. Guess the scrote running on the pitch must be about 60 now and the kid who got done cant be far off it. More match action would be much appreciated.

It was a game against Plymouth(1977 League Cup) not Torquay as was credited on the clip(confusing because Argyle were wearing a yellow kit)..Chris Fear the Westward TV commentator was packing up with his camera man when that incident/beating happened(about 5 mins after the final whistle)
