EFL looking at their next TV deal are considering getting rid of the 3pm TV blackout the BBC's Sport website reports.
EFL TV deal: League willing to consider scrapping Saturday TV blackout - BBC Sport

The next rights cycle will be very interesting not just with the EFL, but with the FA Cup, Premier league etc. As i think companies like Amazon will be looking to get a bigger market share. Viaplay are entering the UK Market, BT Have just merged with Discovery so you would think additional monies available to throw at sports rights etc. Sky recently secured an increase in games from the SPL, almost countering losing EFL Rights etc. or losing a proportion of them.

For EFL Rights , it wouldn't surprise me if Viaplay and ITV look to work together with all matches on Viaplay and ITV screening a certain amount of matches.

For me the more companies that take a slice of the pie, the less likely I am to subscribe. Indeed, I only buy iFollow now for City matches and take the odd one month subscription to Sky (via NowTV) when City are on. With new companies coming into the fold, the costs for consumers will go through the roof. People will just turn increasingly to unauthorised web streams.

Presumably iFollow would remain available for overseas subscribers (or those with a VPN ;))?

Depends on who buys the rights and on what terms Overseas rights might be sold as part of a new package...

This is likely to open up a whole new can of worms.

Within being too simplistic:

Elderly supporters but not disabled as such, will be able to watch their teams play.

Personally I don’t think it will have a serious effect on attendances as many supporters do not just go solely to watch the match but also to meet and socialise.

Also watching it on TV is really a very poor substitute to being in ground and enjoying the excitement and atmosphere created by the supporters.

The mixed blessing may be that streaming providers such as Amazon and Netflix will be interested and challenge iFollow for the broadcasting rights.

Upside that may force iFollow to up their game but downside if they lose their broadcasting rights the likes of Amazon are unlikely to continue in the same manner and we may lose the more local coverage and the link to the Radio Devon boys….just my thoughts.

I agree with you and i now only have a now tv day pass with 8 months mobile which i got for £11.98 purely the Argyle match on the 31st. I Have cut back on BT and Sky sports in the last year. I have no intention of going back to them.

If someone was able to offer the EFL Package with all games at £10 per month i would have that and i would still attend matches as you can never replace attending.

I have Sky Sports on a monthly contract via Now TV.
I frequently tell them I’m leaving and they always offer me a discounted rate to stay. I’ve never paid the full monthly rate (and never would) and currently have it for £20 a month, which I think is ok as I watch a few games each month and maybe some international cricket too.
We also have Amazon Prime for a variety of reasons (Films, TV programmes and quicker and free postage on items ordered from them) plus they have some Premiership football occasionally too.
As we fixed with them for a year we get that for £6.58 a month.
Perhaps my favourite though is a subscription I have to La Liga TV.
That is an additional payment of £7.99 a month on top of the Amazon one but it gives me access to (virtually all I think) La Liga matches. I’m particularly interested in that as I like watching Athletic Bilbao, so I get to see them play ‘live’ 4 or 5 times a month home and away for a couple of quid per match.
But I’ll obviously cancel it during the World Cup and save 2 months subscription.
I’ve never had BT Sport because what I have is plenty enough already and there’s a limit to how much football you can watch!
I have to admit though the way football coverage is fragmented these days is a bit bewildering and potentially very expensive and I’m sure unfortunately prices a lot of people out entirely.
I hope the free to air channels continue to show some in future so everyone gets an opportunity to watch.
It’s always worth checking on the LiveFootballOnTV website as for example ITV4 are showing some live Spanish football this season, including Athletic’s match at Barcelona Sunday 23rd October, if anyone is interested.
I’m currently fortunate to be able to pay for the above but always think carefully before subscribing and lock myself into the very best deals I can. If I think it ever becomes too much for what I’m getting I’ll ditch it.

On that mention now TV sent me a deal for sky sports for £14.99 a month for four months. So have taken that as the day pass was credit so only cost me three pounds last night fur this month and will probably scrap after the Ipswich game
