That was frightening!!! Visually one of the worst crashes I've in F1 for a long time. Thank Christ for the halo.

That's the second time today the halo has come in handy. There was potentially a worse case in F2 where Dennis Hauger was launched by a sausage kerb at the Abbey chicane on to the top of Roy Nissany. Without the halo Nissany would have had a wheel on the head and very little chance of survival. Those sausage kerbs really have to go.

Picture of what I described above.

Also protesters on the Wellington Straight so just as well the red flag came out.

Action packed race. Great for Sainz to pick up his first win in F1. Perez with a typical come back drive for second, aided by the safety car at the end giving him a free pit stop and making it a sprint. He would probably have been chasing down or holding off Lando and Alonso for 4/5th otherwise. Lewis could probably have done without the safety car as he would have caught and passed Sainz at least on the hard tyres.

Leclerc must be absolutely fuming at Ferrari tactics this afternoon. Even with damage it was clear he was quicker than Sainz but too much faffing about what to do on the pitwall cost him time and laps behind Sainz and not attacking him. And then the safety car and not pitting debacle. They had time to call him in and missed it.

Great also to see Mick Schumacher get his first points, bet he didn't expect to be battling Verstappen. The safety car came right for Verstappen as well as with the damage he was nowhere on the hard tyres and being chased down by Mick and KMag before Ocon broke down. Was probably looking at 10th at best.

Glad that Zhou is ok after his crash and hopefully Alex Albon will also be good to leave hospital soon where he is being checked over. That was a massive impact into the pit wall. Good on George for legging it to see if Zhou was ok.

Charles Leclerc seriously annoyed there at the end of the race, I’m not sure the finger wagging from Mattia Binotto cheered him up too much either….the four or Five laps after the safety car produced some exhilarating action, good to see Alonso mixing it there with the best of them too.

Missed the Austrian GP sprint race this afternoon but apparently there’s rain in the forecast for tomorrow’s race, which is probably the only thing that can spoil the Verstappen Red Bull party.

Charles on pole for French GP tomorrow after slipstreaming teammate Sainz on his final flying lap….a disappointing qualifying for Mercedes with Hamilton the best part of second back in fourth and Russell a further 3/10 in sixth, split by Lando in fifth after upgrades to the McLaren.

I'm still very much struggling to enjoy F1 this season after last season's Abu Dhabi debacle.

But a quite amusing one for the rest of us, nonetheless. 🤣
