A great day to the other SJP.

Memories.

0530 pickup for me at Shutterton Lane on the coach from Dawlish outside the Langdon Secure Hospital(how appropriate )

My packed lunch.Riveta & low fat cottage cheese. Thanks mum,the lads took the pi55 about that asking if I was on a diet, despite being as skinny as a rake 😁

Picked a few other supporters at Exeter Services which included a few of my workmates.
Stopped once at Derby to change drivers(10 mins stop) arrived at Washington Services on the A1 at 1130.Hopped over a fence to a pub nearby.
The Police escort was at 1.30pm for the coaches(5 in all) & assorted cars.

The euphoria at 4.40pm.The internal lights turned off on the coach as we exited the city centre so as not to be better targets for the bricks & stones.

40 years...Where did that just go..
I went by train. Won £30 playing brag. Escorted off the train to the stadium by police. Going mental thank you Lee Roberts. Hours getting back to Exeter. We went via Oxford

Great Memories of the day.

Went into a local pub walked in Black and White everywhere thought about walking straight out but braved it made enquiries at the bar with a 'Do you get any hassle in here' barman replied in proper geordie accent ' We don't do food' - So we stayed for a quick one trying not too laugh

Rushed all the way home to watch Sportsnight to actually make sure we had won 4-0 - Great night at the park

Yep, great memories of the cup run. Took a Leicester supporting mate with me on coach. Remember being peeved that I had a can of (soft) drink taken off if me upon entry to ground. What a dump of a terrace, felt like poultry house. Can't remember where I stood for replay back SJP...
Newcastle away: stayed in Tivvy with an old mate, we picked up one of the trains Tivvy Junction. Took forever, one of the trains developed a brake (?) problem nr Bristol iirc. Journey took forever and a day. The 'reception' as we were escorted past ground - bottles, glasses, etc, police horses, couple of boneheads trying to start something as we were queuing to get in. The noise whipped up on the pa Blaydon Races; Lee Roberts 😘, the Gallowgate opp being slow to clear, so being kept in ground afterwards, the reassurance of the cops that they'd get us out, the long walk back through town with a gurt neanderthal wandering in amongst us trying to start something, I bumped into an old school mate whom I hadn't seen for years and who lived out Chawleigh, the freezing cold cattle train on way back, nowhere to sit... Then the atmosphere of the replay back home, stood on the curve of the BB. Motson clambering up to the gantry. Amazing night like no other. Back via St Thomas for a pint in Sawyers on the way home, and watched highlights there. I showed my youngest yesterday. Where have those 40 years gone? The Brian Godfrey era my favourite City teams ever. And I loved that we still played in red v Newcastle away and v Spurs - so much better than some fcuking nondescript or garish yellow/blue strip.

I’ve just realised that of all the games in the 81 cup run, I’ve only ever seen highlights or goals from the Leicester and Newcastle home games - are there any other highlights?

I was thinking the same. All I've seen on YouTube was a clip of our players walking towards/applauding us at the end of the Newcastle game. It was in a MotD video, in a roundup after the three featured matches (one of which featured Coventry, naturally, Jimmy 😏)...

Thinking about it, I think I've also seen some highlights of the Spurs game, but I'd love to see the away games at Leicester and Newcastle, and also the other rounds (Leatherhead, Millwall, Maidstone).
