So is Ilmari going to smash ECFC's record for international caps whilst being a current player? For years IIRC the record books said 'Dermot Curtis (1) Eire'. I think (and Grecian Archive appears to confirm) that we have a number of players on 2 .

Ilmari could get to 2 in the next fortnight. He's a current international with 14 caps. Finland have Euro qualifiers on Thursday 7 and Sunday 10 September. Squad to be announced soon? Back playing just in time?

More travelling after his 'Scotland-Exeter with car breakdown saga' followed by a trip back up to Carlisle. Perhaps that won't seem so far as the Finland game in 10 days time is away to Kazakhstan (returning to Finland for a home game with Denmark)

Only 4 players have made full international appearances while on Exeter’s books:

Dermot Curtis 1 cap Republic of Ireland
Dwayne Lee 2 caps Grenada
Jake Gosling 2 caps Gibraltar
Joel Grant 2 caps Jamaica

The ECFC Museum displays the shirt worn by Dermot Curtis.

Thanks Martin always the ultimate font of historical knowledge. Did Joel Grant play in those two games or was he named in the squad?

The silence from the Club is deafening ? His transfer from Dundee Utd was for an "undisclosed" amount. Have we paid money for a player that we can't get a work permit for ? No work permit would surely mean that it would be illegal to pay his wages ? Are we in "c**k up" territory here ???
Hes been cleared to play... he played on saturday...

Yes definitely played in two games for Jamaica while at City:

13 Oct 2015 away to South Korea. Lost 3-0.
28 May 2016 away to Chile. Joel scored the Jamaica goal in a 2-1 loss.

Thanks Martin, JG now plying his trade at Nantwich Town. Always looked like he played within himself and was a journeyman never staying very long at any one club - Argyle for three years being his longest stint.

Article from suomifutus.com that I have translated below - https://www.suomifutis.com/2023/09/ilmari-niskanen-siirtyi-kesalla-englannin-kentille-kausi-lahtenyt-upeasti-kayntiin-halusivat-minut-todella-paljon-sinne/

Ilmari Niskanen moved to England in the summer - the season got off to a great start: "They really wanted me there"

Huhkaji's EC qualification race continues on Thursday.

Kazakhstan hosts Huuhkaji in the qualifying match starting at 17:00. It is a battle for the top of the group, as both teams have collected nine points and are at the top of the qualifying group.

Part of the team arrived on site in Astana on Monday. With the exception of Robert Taylor, the entire team will be on site in Kazakhstan by Monday evening. Taylor will arrive in Astana on Tuesday.

In the summer, Ilmari Niskanen, who was in Kazakhstan with Huuhkaji, moved to Exeter City, who play in England's third-highest league level in the First League. Exeter City's early season has gone well, as it faces the First League after six rounds played.

- The season got off to a really good start. I made my debut a little over a week ago. Three matches in the opening and three wins. Couldn't have gone better for that. I have good feelings about Exeter City in all aspects. It's a really nice club and city. They really wanted me there, so this was definitely the right choice.

Niskanen's previous club, Dundee United, was relegated to the second highest league level in Scotland at the end of last season. Niskanen told SuomiFutis that he wanted to leave the club after the relegation.

- Of course, I really liked being in Scotland, so it was a bit difficult to leave there, but it was definitely the right decision. We were dropped in the divar, so we had to go to a tougher series from there. Having gotten off to a good start, Niskanen referred to the early season in England.

I presume this is just a mis-translation of 'we were relegated' but it does sound like a particularly painful Scottish punishment.

Maybe they have a striker out of contract that would like to link up with Vils and Ilmari?
Or even wait ‘til January.
