Unthinkable now that a opening game of a World Cup would not be broadcasted live in this country.
They were strange times with the backdrop of the Falklands War hanging over the UK & Argentina.

Good grief ! Even in the first part of the 1970s This looks like a fashion faux pas.
The East German team arrive in West Germany for the 1974 World Cup on a Interflug flight, probably one of the few times that the East German national carrier landed in its Western neighbour.

Interflug flew to some weird & wonderful places that were linked to the same ideology as the country it represented. North Vietnam(Hanoi) Luanda(Angola) & Cuba(Havana) are regular destinations these days but not in the Cold War Era of the 1970s & early 80s.
