I had a brilliant night yesterday.
What a fantastic venue The Forum in Bath is.
Very Art Deco, lovely.
And The Musical Box were incredible.
If you like early Genesis stuff and get the chance to see them, don’t hesitate, you won’t regret it.
I was planning on going to a gig there and staying overnight a couple of years back but the hotels were more expensive than London  The cheapest place was out of town student accommodation (it was during summer holidays)

Bath is a very expensive place in every way you can think of.
Fortunately I live an hour and a bit drive from there so I was home and in bed by midnight-ish 🙂

I had my first trip earlier this evening to the Bristol Beacon (formerly the Colston Hall).
And had the pleasure of paying Bristol’s ULEZ clean air charge for the first time.
We went to see and listen to the Gipsy Kings, the version which features Nicolas Reyes their original lead vocalist.
They were very good and I don’t remember hearing a band being so warmly and enthusiastically received by an audience for a very long time.
It’s almost an impossibility to stay still whilst their playing.
Their music takes me back to when my wife and I first met when we were both working in Spain for a while.
That’s almost 40 years ago now but it’s nice how music can bring back such clear (and happy in this case) memories from so long in the past.

We saw Talon (no, not the German metal band) at our local theatre on Friday evening.
They play exclusively Eagles music and have been doing it for 25 years.
First half was the entire Hotel California album, second half was other miscellaneous tracks.
They were brilliant.
I recommend if they come anywhere near where you are check them out.
My only worry though is that I’m beginning to go a bit M.O.R.
Continuing my recent journey into more sedate music we saw Talon again last night.
This time it was just the four main members of the band playing an acoustic set.
When they do this they play a wider range of covers than just Eagles stuff.
They really are very good musicians and they do great vocal harmonies too.
We saw them in Cwmbran, just over an hour for me.
It’s an interesting place which we’d not been to previously.
It’s a new town (well it was a few years ago) just north of Newport.
We had a wander around after we’d checked out this morning.
It’s like a much smaller version of Milton Keynes but a lot nicer, in my opinion.
After we left there we drove the few miles to Caerleon, which is absolutely stuffed with Roman history as it was the site of a notable legionary fortress - Isca Augusta.
Very interesting.
All that was missing from my trip was incorporating a City match.

Always like listening to a song or two when it's sunny in the High Street.
I always seem to get there as he's launching into Mack The Knife.
Hope he recovers well.
