Too be fair I wasn't that impressed with the first film.
I thought it was similar to the first. So if you'd already seen that, then of course it's going to be disappointing. But I think that misses the point. The first one came out over ten years ago. The new on is for the generation that missed that whole 3d experience the first time round. Our kids loved it, whereas we as parents were a bit meh.

Not really watched but Belfast. What an absolute load of old tosh. Genuinely lasted no more than a couple of minutes before switching over from this utterly pretentious b*ll*cks. Utter, utter guff. Zero anything out of ten anything else.

After lunch at the Savoy (Xmas present) we went back across the Thames to the IMAX to see the latest Indiana Jones movie. Apparently the screen is the largest in the country. While this film is not as bad as the fourth one, it's not great either but fine enough entertainment and there is some character development and development of relationships. A typical Indiana film. 7/10.

Incidentally I had the fish and chips and the wife had the fish pie. Both excellent. Wine wasn't included, but we went for the very nice Picpoul de Pinet which is quite a lot more expensive than in your local supermarket 😭

I went on my own to see the new (and I think final) Indiana Jones film at my local cinema yesterday.
Mrs Bridgy couldn’t be persuaded and was also looking after our two youngest grandchildren.
In the week or two preceding I watched the four previous instalments on catch-up tv, to get in the mood.
I only remembered bits of the first two and realized that I’d not even seen the third and fourth ones before.
Dial of Destiny is ok and you don’t really have to have seen the previous films to follow it, but some of the previous characters do make a brief reappearance in this one as well.
You really do have to suspend your disbelief at times though but I suppose a lot of films are like that.
Without giving too much away, Indiana Jones’ character is also digitally de-aged for some scenes.
It was very realistic and got me thinking how that technique might develop in future in different ways with other older film actors.
Anyway, an enjoyable afternoon to round off a 42 year film franchise that’s run the entire length of my adult life!
I can’t beat Hants’ Savoy fish and chips, but if Banksy is reading this I’m sure he’ll be interested to hear that my lunch consisted of two slices of cold pizza and a tasty piece of cherry madiera.

Yum yum , cherry Madeira cake! Mrs Banksy turns out a nice homemade version of that delicacy.
Interested to read the film review as daughter has asked if I want to see the film at the local IMAX.
So , when the initial rush has died down , we’ll do just that.Saw the four previous when they came out and from memory enjoyed the Last Crusade one with Sean Connery most of all.All good escapist fun though.Finding myself humming the theme tune now in anticipation!

Black Adam. The Rock’s normally good value and unlike the rest of the cast - other than the skateboarding kid - doesn’t disappoint. In what seems like a Mummy/Scorpion King rehash, Rock is reawakened to free an obscure middle eastern town in the middle of nowhere.

As is always the way in both DC and Marvel films, when there’s planetary jeopardy maybe one or two superheroes turn up to try and save the day rather than the biggest and most powerful, however this time it’s a very odd team who you have no affinity for whatsoever. Nor do you for pretty much anything else either.

But there’s lots of big fights, explosions, more fights, more explosions and, believe it or not, some fights too. Which get a bit dull in the end and at just over two hours worth it could have been cut by a god half hour without spoiling anything.

Five Shazams out of ten rightful heirs to the throne.

Saw Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny last night at the local IMAX screen. Two hours odd of water spraying , seats moving around for car chases and horse rides and any other excuses for being flung around . Plus , of course , that feeling of insect life crawling over me in the token Indy insect and snake underground scene.
Some amazing digital youthification effects give Indy himself a great opening flashback section back in the second world war. Clever stuff!
Great fun though with films that lend themselves to it like this Indy one , although I must say I wouldn’t want to experience too many films that way. But nine Holy Grails out of ten Archimedes from me for entertainment value for this one anyway. Guess that will be it now for the series but a good conclusion to the tale.
