Pretty sure I came down those steps, as a youngster, when leaving the ground after the '68 game against Man U. It was really frightening as my feet didn't touch the ground from top to bottom!

I personally think its a portal to Hell where the screaming souls of past Arg*** managers are trapped for eternity.
OR
It's a blocked up set of steps.

I've been searching for pictures of the gate in use, but have been unsuccessful. They exist!
Not quite ‘in use’ but this is a photo I took from the outside the ground which clearly shows the entrance ‘doors’. Looks like there were two turnstiles. Sadly I don’t have a date but it would have been taken prior to the 1999/2001 redevelopment. The photo has been deposited, along with others, at the ECFC Museum.

I started working at the club as an apprentice groundsman in 1983/84 and im pretty sure they werent in use then. They wernt blocked off but were out of use

I first went in 1977, I was only 5 then but I think I did enter or exit at some point through those steps, but can’t be certain.
