In RaWZ we trust....Amen.
In its increasingly hysterical campaign to abolish Inheritance Tax, which event will apparently transform our economy (haw haw haw), and lead to a further Tory government the Torygraph reports today that those in Surrey shuffling off this mortal coil (or more correctly their beneficiaries) pay more IHT than those who die in Wales
A recent Daily Mail raison d’etre about VAT free shopping for overseas tourists is just as hysterical. Do travellers really pick destinations for their vacations on the strength of the tax free shopping available ?
I doubt giving back the 20% VAT to people who can afford to pay it is of much interest to the vast majority of citizens in the country.

Yes, some travellers, usually the ones that go somewhere to spend a lot of money, do pick their destinations on how cheap the goods are in said country.

If a rolex watch is £20,000 in Paris whereas its £25,000 in London, why even bother coming here? Go to Paris instead and there's your business class air fare (with some money saved on top).

That's why when the pound crashes, there's a very nice silver lining.

As always, a lot of people (incl the current Tory governement) are short sighted when it comes to taxes.

What if they haven't arrived by small boat? What if they have arrived by other legal methods?
Speaking personally anyone in the process of an asylum application complaining about U.K. taxpayer funded accommodation is terminally ungrateful.
It also betrays the motivations of the applicant IMO, anyone actually escaping danger and oppression would look at his situation and think sharing a room was the least of his worries, an asylum ‘shopper’ will view himself as a consumer and thus will feel comfortable complaining about such things.
