For me Archie was lying deep mostly, almost a holding mf role rather than box-to-box. With Rakeem Harper in the side, just couldn’t fathom it. White and Stansfield too lightweight, too similar, and talking of which, missed Diabate’s physical presence v some big Charlton units. Couldn’t fathom that one either.

Sensing the winds of change within the camp.

Forgot this happened before the game. The kid looked a bit non-plussed when Kev handed him his gloves. Sam Parkin never replaced my Grandad's walking stick he broke in similar circumstances 🙂.

Goods: Mitchell, Nombe, White.
Bads: Sweeney, Stansfield.

Did enough to win, but in this division you gift the opposition two chances the likelihood is they’ll score twice.
White Good?. What game were you watching?

King Kev - I wonder if Exeweb could pay for the young lad and dad to go corporate for a game to make up for it ?

A strange game with a mix of promise, frustration and downright annoyance. We started off bright enough, forcing the issue without looking overly threatening, but then conceded what appeared to be a very good goal until you look at it and wonder where the pressure was on the pass. It was a very good run and finish by Rak Sakyi but he should never been on the end of that kind of pass. Ten minutes later we find ourselves in a position where we're facing our own goal but appear to have it covered off until Caprice nods off and goes to sleep, 2-0 and goodnight nurse already. But then we find away back through through some unchararcteristic (well today anyway, God he was 'kin awful today) good work by Caprice who dug out a great cross for Mitchell to volley home well at the back post. Mitchell had come on for Sparkes to shut Raki Sakyi down as far as I could tell because Jacko simply couldn't keep up with him. For me it worked and Rak Sakyi didn't have near the influence in the rest of the game as he had for the first half hour. We get ourselves back in the game and force a load of corners that we can't make use of, mainly because we haven't got much in the box to get our head on one and our short corner routines are so predictable and easy to read once you've seen the first one. I don't mind a short corner if it's going to inventive and create some kind of effort on goal but they so very rarely do.
The second half we appeared to dominate possession whilst Charlton were controlling the pattern of the game and were able to slow it as required when they got on the ball. Yet more corners came and were wasted. Stanno didn't quite get hold of his volley and then Harry Kite forced a good save out of the Charlton keeper. As a game goes it was entertaining enough despite the defeat and we got to see some of our new signings.
I'm not sure about the criticism aimed at Aimson by some. Was he wonderfully outstanding? No, but he was nowhere near as bad as suggested by some. He was always going to have his hands full when he's up against a striker like Bonne (what was with his 80's porn star tash?) but he had reasonable game. Mitchell could be interesting to watch. I fear he could become a bit like Caprice, brilliant one week but leaving you wondering why the following week. One thing is for sure, he's bloody quick off the mark over five/ten yards. McDonald will be the signing of the season if he can get match fit asap. He wants the ball all the time and knows exactly what is on and where to go with it when he gets it and will give us the guile and nous in midfield that we currently lack. As I've said in an earlier post, Scott will be a handful. He's tall, big, strong and no slouch for a big lad. Him and Nombe together will be a centre half's nightmare together or, if Mr C decides to go one or the other, will be a good replacement for Nombe be it from the start or as Nombe's sub during the game. We will have a continuing presence up front right throughout the game. If these lads can settle in quickly, despite todays result, we won't be going backwards this season and should finish at least where we are if not higher at the end of the season.

He wasn't at his best it is fair to say but I'm not sure he was quite as bad as I'm reading your comment. I think his biggest problem at the moment is he runs out of steam after about hour and his feet and brain stop working in tandem and then everything he does, especially in tight areas, starts to look messy and awkward.

Fair enough but he looked well off the pace for a L1 midfielder. It’s not just about developing another teams player for them, he needs to meet the current standard at least otherwise what’s in it for us? Let’s hope he improves.

agree cowshed, looked tidy in parts but faded quite noticeably and looked well off it by the end. Not the only one out there today mind. Let’s hope his fitness picks up, especially if jb is out for a prolonged stint. I’ve mentioned it a couple of times, but we’re f****** terrible at corners, delivery and what’s that stupid formation supposed to achieve, dire
