Sir Nigel wasn't exerting himself too much coming through Stoke Canon just now. Must be relying on Class 47 Lady Di to give him a shove over Whiteball !

Much to my annoyance I failed to press the red button on my video recorder  on Saturday as Sir Nigel stormed through St Thomas station with a long train. A diesel was assisting at the rear. About 30 watchers (y)and not all of them old farts.

Reading that 60007 was eased down in places where there was lineside vegetation, owing to the dry conditions and the risk of fire.

A tragic loss of a financial opportunity there Al. I'm sure that your tabloid of choice would have paid well for a clip of Lady Di giving Sir Nigel a vigorous shove up the rear!

Not a train but still vintage steam transport. The "Waverley" which is the World's last sea going paddle steamer is cruising around the Bristol Channel during the next fortnight. The itinerary varies daily but it calls into various ports both this side and over in Wales. Stops include Ilfracombe, Minehead, Weston-super-Mare, Clevedon etc, and there is even a trip taking in Lundy. Full details on their website.

Will we get any reinstated lines in Devon?

This article has a very interesting video in and well worth using 11 minutes of your time to watch

I remember camping with the scouts at Perridge next to the course of a railway. No mention of connecting Exeter and Christow !

We camped in the area(2nd Exminster Scouts) in 1972/73 just up from Christow.
The bit of land we used(the scoutmaster knew the owner) had the former Exminster Railway Station waiting room on the site. The younger lads, me included slept in that during the Easter & Whitsun camps.

Great days.

Perhaps this should be on the "things that ducking annoy you" but Greedy Western Railway whacking another 5% on local off-peak fares (this over and above the 5.9% already allowed by the ever-obliging so-called "regulator" back in March.
GWR train fare hikes confirmed in Devon and Cornwall - Cornwall Live
To read the self-serving corporate b-s churned out by the company brings a lump to the throat.

I suppose the only consolation that might be gained is that surely the company/government will now be able to bring an end to the recent strikes by now offering a commensurate 10.9% pay award to the hard-working staff*

*Gestapo Revenue Officers NOT included!

"They say they are hoping this will also encourage people to travel on quieter trains." Not sure I follow their reasoning there............
