Indeed...Quite easily.

Nationwide the TV News magazine(1969-83) started later in the year, reporting on some of the minor & quirky news stories that would not be shown on BBC News.

Don't forget that Nationwide was a feeder to regional BBC News programmes like Spotlight, IIRC about 20/25 mins local news and the rest of the hour or so Nationwide.

The rapid expansion of News Channels is a double edged sword. Reporting in the public interest is always to be commended, though at times in the past decade some of the blanket reporting & hysteria around some issues seems to disproportionately influence politicians. A good example of this was the ill advised closing of schools, colleges & Universities in the early days of the pandemic.

14th June 1971

A segue way in the tv section. A Horizon programme about the effectiveness of Aircraft Bombers, to the use of B17s in a upcoming Family At War episode. Remarkable that there were still a squadron of 8 in France, though not in their primary role.
Reminded me of the story of a B17 that made a emergency landing on one engine after flack damage over France in a field at Langdon Hospital just outside of Dawlish in 1943.
After repairs, with its armaments stripped out to reduce weight it took off from the temporary airstrip.

The biography of Sir Francis Chichester(1901-72) would have been worth watching . A well known figure in the UK & around the world for his singlehanded sailing exploits in Gypsy Moth IV.
He also had a interesting life in Aviation in the 1930s.

Robert Peston could hardly contain his glee at the ongoing drama surrounding BJ on last nights Peston. Though there was some me serious stuff from the former governor of the BoE, something politicians of all persuasions are reluctant to admit.

You sound surprised.

As for Mark Carney...anything from him is a bit rich given a lot of our current malaise is due in large part to him, having rewarded debtors at the expense of savers for his whole tenure.
