11th June 1987.

General Election time. Mercifully there were no rolling news channels in those days covering the build up or tiresome leaders debates Just usual Party Political Broadcasts & coverage on the scheduled news bulletins.

A day I remember because it coincided with a Cricket match at Heathcotes Cricket Ground, which was just outside Tiverton at Knighthayes. The Exeter depot v Tiverton Depot for the T.W.A.T * Cup. A great evening with the bar in the clubhouse open between innings.
My first ball bowled was hit to the boundary where the fielder dropped it over the rope for 6 🙁

Acronym is Tiverton Workers Association Trophy 😎

The World Cup starts in West Germany. The opening game was a bit drab. Brazil did not play the in the same exciting manner as they had 4 years ago in Mexico.

This week 1980. The European Championship was in Italy.
Tear gas wafting on the pitch from the terraces during the first England game.
Was there a better curly perm in football than Kevin Keegans ?

This week 1985

Channel 4 were re-running surviving episodes of the 1960s music magazine show Ready Steady Go.
All of the Pop music stars & their record companies of the era wanted to perform on it. Running from 1963 to the end of 1966. A ATV-Rediffusion production initially only for the London area. Networked from 1964 on.
The programme galvanised the BBC to produce Top of the Pops.

They literally had scratch and sniff cards to go with some programmes, Seeing as TV Times are pushing them i guess it was ITV/C4 programmes where you could watch and when prompted you scratched a card and sniffed along! Don't think it caught on. :)

A programme looking back at Euro 2004 in Portugal was on BBC 1 late yesterday evening. A good watch, I’d forgotten about most of the England games from the tournament.
Worth a look on iplayer if you haven’t already seen it.
