I went to a friendly between Wales and Argentina at the Millennium Stadium in 2002.
If I recall correctly they had the roof closed that evening. I don’t know why.
Wales played most of their matches there in those days and I must have got on their mailing list.
I ended up going back and the tickets were really cheap. About £10-15.
The best match I saw was when they beat Italy 2:1 in a Euro 2004 qualifier.
That was a brilliant performance and atmosphere.
I prefer the Millennium Stadium to the new Wembley. Less corporate.
I saw Oasis there in 2009. They were good too.
Was that Italy game the one where they had the Manic Street Preachers getting the crowd wound up before the game? I remember watching it on TV and the crowd were well whipped up. During the anthems the Italians were looking at each other wondering what the hell was going on as the crowd belted out Land of my Fathers. It sounded incredible on TV so must have been something to be there.

That’s the one.
I’ve just looked up the pre-match build-up to refresh my memory. After all it was 20 years ago.
Bryn Terfel sang the national anthem, John Charles (a Welsh and Italian football legend) walked on the pitch and waved to the crowd, then The Manics played a few songs on the touch line.
By kickoff it was electric and that pretty much continued for the whole game.
The hard bitten Italians, who I imagine had pretty much heard and seen it all, seemed visibly unsettled.
It was the best sporting atmosphere I’ve ever experienced and I’m not even Welsh.
Brilliant night. What a game football can be.

Draw for England could have been worse.

Certainly a different looking draw Iran, USA, Wales/Scotland or even Ukraine.

Let’s be honest, England are absolutely going to **** that group. It’s basically Premier League v three Conference sides.
