The goal of 6k is equivalent to putting 40-50% on our match day gates, That as I've said is a huge task, Especially the reluctance some might have attending because of this virus, We will hardly ever achieve this number while we're in L2, Its not a negative, Its a fact. Look back at last seasons match day threads, How many times were the words "Awful" and "Dire" used, Now the hardcore will go come what may but to ask for an increase while we're in L2, It will be tough. Anyone who says it's more than just on the field that counts, Well it's not, We have to succeed on the pitch then the rest will follow because people will see a "Product" worth giving their money too. We remain the "Nearly team" of L2 it will never happen, No matter who's in charge of this project.
The 6000 figure is to enable us to be a stable L1 side though when we get there, as a target to aim for. Be in L1, average 6000. Not get to average 6000 first before we can really challenge to go up from L2.

Our last spell in L1 over three seasons averaged 5233. The problem is sustaining the attendance as it dropped season to season (5832, 5393, 4474). The third season would have been largely down to on pitch performance as we got relegated quite comfortably but we improved on the pitch from relegation candidates to eighth in the second.

So in conclusion, 6000 average in L1 isn't a mile off when we get there. But the key is sustaining it and it is not all down to performance on the pitch as the approx 450 decrease from the first season to the eighth place finish second season shows.

I realise the 6k is for L1 but if we are challenging for promotion we'll get a decent start to that goal while being in L2, Be also rans season after season and those fans other than the hard-core will just vote with their feet and not turn up. 10 yrs in L2 and we've hardly moved forward, Defeats in POF's mean we are where we are, Just the same as missing out on the play offs itself, We're still L2, Next season we have to go for it. I'm still convinced off the field We're in the strongest position we've ever been. Also like said our last spell in L1 the crowd average looked good because of the big teams we played with large away support.

The first season was the logical post-double promotion euphoria, the 2nd season is probably about right for a City team that struggled and then went on a run which boosted the average crowds. The third season we were pretty dire and got relegated. Imo there is a direct relationship between results and attendances

My grouch is that we have added two more directors who specialise in marketing but there isn't a market for what they are offering.
I don't know if these directors are paid a salary or not, that is true. .
Nick Hawker confirmed that they are not paid and do not have voting rights - Non-Executive and from the way they were described they had a lot more experience than Marketing, we are talking about previous leaders of FTSE 100/250 companies that are willing to give some direction and experience 'business head' to the Club Board, something that lots of us have been crying out for to move on from the 'village fete mentality' - which personally I always thought was insulting to the people who have bothered to stand for election

They are on 12 month tenures - if they don't offer anything worthwhile then the Trust can politley say Thanks and we will see you anon

The average attendance for the last two seasons where fans were let in have actually increased quite significantly. There will obviously be reasons for that (having a full house for Argyle for example).

But seeing we all (mostly) want City to establish ourselves in L1 and not be so reliant on windfall, it's surely a good thing that the board and trust are looking at what is required, even if it seems ambitious. We are improving off the pitch and we are as strong financially as we ever have been. But we have never been a stable L1 team before as our history has shown. Just normally a few seasons before we came back down. That says performance on the pitch needs to be aided by extra performance off the pitch and it needs to go hand in hand. Whether the board (and team!) can pull this off is another matter. But at least it looks like they are acting on it under Richard Pym.

You seem to get me wrong, It would give nothing but pleasure in seeing an average of 6k at SJP but it will rarely happen in L2, It will in L1 when bigger teams visit but to get there we need a team, Not just to get us out of L2 but be able to show a good account of themselves in L1 then build on that, If these people coming in are as Nick Exmouth says then all power to them, I'd like to see their CV's published so we can judge for ourselves mind, Not just take someone's word for it, I hope come August the team we have will be a strong one and then this project will have a good start IMHO.

Good post. Couldn't agree more. It's ambitious, yes, but equally it should be seen as a statement of intent.

Their names were given when they were voted upon by the TB so I don't see why I can't share the information considering it was in the Open part of the Trust Meeting - I will see if I can find the Post It where I made a note of thier names next tea break

I think we are really singing from the same hymn sheet. Of course we need to put our resources into getting into L1. The budget being talked about for this season seems to be an indicator we are trying to get players in of a quality and number we have not been able to before. Whether we can get these players signed is another matter being new to that, no doubt competitive, market.

But some forward planning and targets are needed. Getting the right kind of expertise can only help. I think the email mentioned that announcements on the other appointee's would be forthcoming.

Appointee Number 1 was Jeremy Tipper - apologies I can't find the Post It with appointee number 2's name - perhaps one of the Trust Board can help?
