By my calculations with this week’s good news in relation to Sonny, if all options are taken up, we already have 12 first team players signed up for next season (plus probably a few young professionals on the fringe):
Niskanen, Sweeney, Fitzwater, Aimson, Jules, Purrington and Harper.
Cole, Aitchison and Watts.
Cox and Alli.
Obviously still some way to go but that lot look like a good start to me.
Is Aimson favoured over Diabate at the moment because that's the defence going forward and Diabate has indicated he's off?

Watching the reply, there certainly didn't appear to be any problem between Cheick and the manager when he was preparing to come on.

One name doing the rounds in January - Theo Bair, scored two more goals last night, on a contract with Motherwell until 2025, so whether this is/was a realistic possibilty is still under question but sounds like would be a good signing if it is for the summer.
Oh come on it's the SPL. St Mirren, who are 4th, thought it would be a good idea to sign James Scott.

A few good NL options. Some of these will be snapped up by bigger clubs probably but hopefully we're keeping tabs on talent like this.

Josh Stokes - Aldershot (on loan from Bristol City) - Winger.
Ben Krauhaus - Bromley (on loan from Brentford) - Winger.
Dan Ellison - Chippenham Town - CB - long term deal so would require £...
Danny Ormerod - Fylde - CF.
Kyrell Lisbie - Cray Valley PM - Winger/CF.
George Nevett - Rochdale - CB.
Freddie Hockey - Chelmsford - CF.
Taelor O’Kane - Fylde - CM.
Freddie Carter - Eastbourne - CB.
George Wilkinson - Dover - CM.
Lorent Tolaj - Aldershot - CF.

I think we need league one options next year. This year has proven plainly and obviously that the current approach to goal scoring doesn’t work. We have the makings of decent defensive and midfield options but no end result. Spend some money on a couple of proven goal scorers or face the horrors of non league again.

I bet Rosencrantz will be here later to tell you different and why he thinks so. To some extent I agree with him but, as you might gather from my post on the match day threads, to another extent I don't but I'll Rosie to explain in his usually eloquent way. There is more than one way to the back of net and it's not always by the prettiest means available.

Not quite sure what you are getting at really. I already put on another thread that the final third needs obvious work on it. I'm not against having goalscorers in the side. I think the "proven" part is subjective and we will have 23 other teams at least also looking for the same. Alfie May is a proven goalscorer in L1 but it hasn't yet led to much success for the teams he has played for in L1 although crucial to staying up at Cheltenham.

It's all about getting goals into the side that add up to success. Whether that's a front two who get 35-40 goals between them or three or four players who get 40 odd goals between them. Our last promotion winning side would be a good example (and none of those players were really proven until that point).

It will always come down to the right signing (wherever they come from, NL, PL2, Champ cast off..) and then getting the right combinations.
