Sell the stadium naming rights, get sponsorship over the players socks, pants, you name it, just get some bloody money in.
No need to worry Jay, I'm sure our commercial department have things all in hand...!!

The Some Sunny Day stadium has a ring to it. Where are Lionel and Fever with their cheque books ?

I like it a lot. We have a cheque book but don't think you get much for £14.97 these days. :)

You'll find nowadays a lot of naming rights issues for stadiums tend to be fronts for the owners chucking in money through the back door. E.g. The Lamex (Stevenage), the One Call Stadium (Mansfield). And, er, the Etihad...!
The We Own Our Football Club (?) But Not Our Ground Stadium

:) Thank you kindly. Sorry for going off topic, but it would be churlish not to answer the man. Yes, the next Some Sunny Day (issue 3) is currently in production and will be available to buy for just £1 on Sat 8th Feb at SJP when Portsmouth visit. If you can't make the game, then pre-order your copy at www.somesunnyday.org.uk, where back issues can also be ordered.

There are some (as you point out) where that could be true, but also plenty where it is not, such as The JD Stadium (Bury). Not that the deal there is worth anything like the figure RW suggests we could achieve.
Flybe are paying us a six figure annual sum, although it varies according to which league we're in and how we're performing in that league. I believe we also get bonuses for increased TV exposure. Then, of course, we get the occasional flight perks.

However Flybe have never wanted a naming rights deal with us after their experience with Southampton about ten years ago. Therefore when I suggested a naming rights deal as part of a redevelopment financing package, that was in addition to the Flybe shirt/advertising hoarding deal. If Flybe are in danger of pulling out then a new combined namings rights and shirt advertising deal could be considered, and the price on a 10 year deal on a revamped stadium would be greater than the £1.5 m that I suggested just for naming rights.
