Way I see it, 2022 was quite an easy window and we were fine, though brought in a bit too much filler, for my tastes. Jan '23 was pretty decent - two quality players, Joe White who was maybe a bit early in his development, plus Scott, who's not worked out. Summer '23 was BY FAR the hardest transfer window, with massive player turnover, including all the better players on our team. Very very difficult job to replace them all. We then signed quite a few decent enough players, but with massive gaps in the squad, particularly up front, but also in midfield physicality. We also have a lot of players who can "do a job" at full back/wing back, without any real specialists in those positions. Think some of this is excusable based on how difficult the job was that window, but definitely not the striker situation. Catastrophic mismanagement. In 2022 we ended up with less signings than MT had stated were needed. Fortunately the overall balance of the team was not affected, just light in numbers. The $hit show of 2023 left us with gaping holes, particularly in attack, and we ended up with a hotch potch of short term signings as we desperately tried to fill gaps.
