Neil Whitworth was an absolute colossus, I can see why no-one has mentioned him yet...

Former Echo scribe Nick Beer has a good Neil Whitworth anecdote...

Beeros tells it much better than me [and, moreover, won't get the minutiae wrong] but, essentially, Monday morning's Echo match report blamed Whitworth for all three goals City had conceded in their defeat two days earlier.

When visiting the Cat & Fiddle later that week, the Echo's erstwhile City correspondent was taken to one side by Whitworth who asked him, in no uncertain terms, if he was trying to curtail his career. Apparently, the only way Nick was able to reassure the former Man U man that this wasn't his objective was by reminding him off the mistakes he's made in the build-up to each of the three goals lol.
