Have you got a link to that blurb? Be good to see the detail juxtaposed against this from 2 days ago.

"Mr Thomas has never made any claims of serving in combat directly himself."

The controversy surrounds a Guardian article which he links to from his website where they claim he served in combat missions. So yes no direct claim from him at least, but the still live link is problematic for him if wants to represent himself accurately I suppose.

BTW, any info on that ‘right wing slant’ you say exists every week on the panels of BBCQT?

When you put BBCQT, I miss read it and thought you were talking about BBC Gardeners World and thought I didn't realise Monty Don was accused of being right wing! 🙂

I thought I’d explained perhaps the reasoning behind that.
We maybe arguing at cross purposes, but if the lone right wing voice is a Tory MP and they’re up against a Labour and a Liberal politician it’s only natural that the panel is padded out with a right wing media type.

Worth putting any money on it?

This is where I disagree.

We have distinct political parties in the UK so the party political balance reflects the electorate.
The Liberals were most recently in government as a coalition with the Conservatives.

To label all the non Tory parties as 'left wing progressive' brings up two interesting sequiturs ...
  • The 'socially conservative UK' (your definition) somehow votes left wing progressive in the main.
  • The 'left leaning' BBC (your definition) has, for years, somehow strived to make their panels more right wing.
It's not as if the non party right wingers were bringing real alternative voices as a lot of them were/are openly Conservative cheerleaders in their respective journalistic or 'independent think tank' roles.
