By offering the longer-term deal have we put ourselves in a tricky position?The delay will be on advice from his agent. Players doing well have the right to choose. Waiting to see increases the potential options to choice from. Some players don't want to wait. Let's hope Zak us one of those.
Presumably, the terms of the 12 month option were agreed last summer and all we'd have needed to do was activate it. The risk then is that if he does well he can leave for bigger and better things next summer.
But, by offering a longer deal, presumably on more favourable terms for Zak, he now has a decision to make on whether or not to accept it. If he doesn't,maybe because he's already eyeing up that move away to bigger and better things next summer, would we want to activate the existing 12 month option, in full knowledge that he's not that fussed about being here? Therefore, could we be letting him go this summer?
