Raman Subba Row had retired young and before I got into cricket but I note he had both an excellent first class and Test batting average

RIP
He was also the manager of the tour of India in 1981-82, when Geoff Boycott was sent home.

Raman Subba Row. An excellent cricketer. RIP.
Displaying my ignorance here but despite considering myself a cricket fan I’ve never heard of his name until yesterday. Surprised it’s never come up in the thousands of hours I’ve spent watching or listening to cricket (unless I’ve missed it)

Seems he was quite a big figure in the game

One of the most exciting players to watch in the 1970s. Should have gone to the World Cup in 1982, but Wales stuffed up against Iceland and he missed out. Played at SJP in the 1980s near the end of his career, when Burnley had fallen to Div 4.

He became a fairly outspoken radio pundit in later life too.
Check out his ‘discussions’ on YouTube with Robbie Savage from about 12 years ago about him not playing for Wales anymore.

Terry Anderson, reporter, Beirut hostage for 7 years from 1985.

His book about the experience is well worth a read ("Den of Lions").
