One of those faults being managing football teams. He's got his faults as I believe I discussed with you previously.

But theres no point in hoofing the ball , either down the channels or to a frontman, when the frontman is giving away 6 inches and 4 stone. Cox is more your stanno rather than nombe. The problem is everyone is so black and white with style of play. It's either tippy tippy or hoof ball as they call it.
There is an in-between and mixing it up is much more effective.
That's personally why I liked Taylor. The boys at the back and Archie would pass it around a bit but when it needed to go longer it would.
There's a different between hoofing it up aimlessly and playing long direct balls down the channels etc.
Gash?Gaz?
That has been the crux of it, albeit not particularly hoof ball to a big lump. We lack the options of how to play out. Whilst the primary objective is to play out through a press, having no real other option to get the ball into the final third has made it easier for the opposition to set up against us. If we had that lead the line striker, who can battle and hold the ball up, or has the pace to run the channels, it would give us an effective alternative option and then the opposition have to think about how they set up more. If they press and play really high, they leave space behind them to play into. If they press high but the defence stay then you get gaps between defence and midfield to drop the ball into the centre forward to hold up and have runners (Harris and Aitcheson, the wing backs) off of him. If they sit deep and invite balls into the area, we would have a viable target in there and have more confidence to flood the area. But theres no point in hoofing the ball , either down the channels or to a frontman, when the frontman is giving away 6 inches and 4 stone. There is no outball with the forward options we have so have to play around between midfield and defence.
Hence the tippy tappy until we lose it.......
Totally agree. We just need to make sure we get this profile of player in the door. Fingers crossed! That has been the crux of it, albeit not particularly hoof ball to a big lump. Without that at the moment, we have only one or two ways of viably playing out. Pass it through the thirds, or hit the wide channels and hope you can regain possession in the final third by Sonny battling or the wide players. That still leaves us light of a real physical presence in the box.
Getting in a lead the line striker of decent quality (two ideally) will be a big help to the squad. Whether It be someone good with their back to goal or quick to run in behind or the channels. We were lucky with Sam as he had both in the locker. It just opens other options and gives the opposition more to think about. It won't make us world beating overnight, but it does give us a chance of being a half decent side where the sum of it's parts can gain value and have something that can built on.
Yes shows what happens when you put up some fight rather than play out a pre season friendly for the last half hour.Blackpool pull back from 2 down home to Nottingham Forest currently now 2-2 puts our game into perspective
it does indeed they played in 3rd gear and beat us 2-0 imagine if they had turned it on it would of been Bolton score lines again….Blackpool pull back from 2 down home to Nottingham Forest currently now 2-2 puts our game into perspective
