Eh?

Burnley didn't just come into existence straight into the Premier League. I've literally no idea what point you're trying to make there.

Burnley do have more fans. So perhaps we should do some thinking about how we can tap into a greater % of our greater population. The potential is there...
The only competition in town is gala bingo. If they stay in the league, mega bucks, if they get relegated, mega bucks.

Meanwhile, in little old exeter we have the small matter of the chiefs to tap into our population. And we dont get huge handouts from the efl. Footie fans are fickle.

Who would they rather watch ronaldo or aimson. We do well to retain our crowds at the minute, we dont have a great deal of wiggle room with SJP if we signed messi (hypothetically)

Burnley have some seriously big and elite football clubs within about half hour from them. I'd say they have plenty of competition.

Innit.

Burnley, population 72,000 and declining, are a Championship/Premier League yo-yo club.

Yet at little old Exeter, population 130,000 and growing, we shouldn't criticise our manager for struggling in League One. Go figure.
The population growth of Exeter has risen by close to 25 per cent in the past 25 years and major developments at Westclyst and Cranbrook both in east devon but on the doorstep of the city swell that increase further. However, population is clearly only a factor amongst many as to why certain football clubs by and large become normalised in one of the 4 divisions for the majority of their existence. Winchester has an almost identical population to Exeter and Basingstoke and Guildford have similar if not larger conurbations but don't have football teams of any note. Stadium size, investment and history whether we like it or not are equally if not more important than the numbers living in an area. Doncaster has a population of over 300,000 and yes I get they are in close proximity to Sheffield but their history is hardly successful.

So can we continue to develop as a club of course we can and the last 10 years in particulr have seen us move out of our normal place in L2 to one where we can comfortably exist in L1. It may sound dull as progress but getting us into the Championship is tough but has to be the target. Can we stay there - no

I don't know where to start, plus I really don't think you're grasping the wider point, but I'm a glutton for punishment so here goes...

- There is no reasonable metric by which Burnley SHOULD compete as far up the English football pyramid as they consistently do. They overachieve. We should not self impose restrictions on our ambitions based on metrics that clubs like Burnley have consistently outperformed over decades (preceding the PL money that for some reason you're obsessing with)

- You think Burnley FC is the only gig in town, but it only takes 30 minutes longer to drive to Old Trafford or The Etihad from Turf More than it would take to drive from SJP to Sandy Park

- Of course crowds would want to watch Ronaldo over Aimson, success breeds success. So accepting mediocrity based on our population (bigger than Burnley's), competition from some egg chasers or a defeatist perception of our own place in the pyramid based on history is seriously going to stunt our growth.

Just untrue. Google maps is your friend.

Question: if the Chiefs are such a big issue for us, why have City's attendances been higher in the 20 years since Chief's moved to Sandy Park than in the 4 decades before?

So burnley are over achieving cos they only have 70k population?

What other factors come into play? Why did man city suddenly become successful, and chelsea, and man u, I could go on.

West Brom used to yoyo between the top 2 divisions and still make a profit.
