Our driver missed the turnoff coming home and we were in Coventry before the error was spotted
😁You would have thought the signs with the mileage to London would have given him a clue🤣

Been on a trip in the Midlands, after the game we travelled about 20 miles on the M6 North before the driver twigged that we were not heading to Devon.
No one said anything because we thought he knew some sort of short cut :D

A similar thing happened on my coach back from one of the League Cup games at Anfield. A motorway exit sign for "Preston" led to a debate amongst the passengers about whether that was north of Liverpool or not. Concluding that it was, the driver was alerted and he did a U-turn at the exit in order to head home!

Would have been OK if we had a game at Carlisle coming up.

1/11/86 The Grecians travel to Preston as the only unbeaten team in the Football League.
The match at Deepdale was their 14th Division 4 game that season. The run came to a end with a 2-1 defeat.
It was the first occasion the Grecians played on a artificial pitch(Plastic)
Preston installed it the previous summer, joining Luton,QPR & Oldham in dispensing with grass(since outlawed in the FL)
It seemed odd at the time watching a game on a flawless carpet. The players wore trainers.38608758-17B5-4071-8B86-56A24E3A9F87.jpegBB9CB737-7FF1-4B49-88FA-DB0D318FBA64.jpeg

Looking at the forward line,I always liked Brendon O’Connell up front,Mark Robson was also starting to make his mark, that would eventually lead to a move to Spurs..Tony Kellow & Dean Roberts were the other two forwards at the time.
‘Lukewarm’ Biggins had been signed a few weeks previously.

Not a bad team looking back, but the lack of depth in the squad scuppered the side after Xmas.

This was the first season of the playoffs system.High hopes of being involved until mid March(in a PO position for most of the season until then)

Like we’ve said before the late, late winner that day was truly gutting to the fans.

We had high hopes of Biggins as he’d come in from Oxford with decent goal scoring record behind him...but as often happens it didn’t work out for him at SJP and became an unjust target for the boo boys at the time.

He had a good record at Shrewsbury as well iirc.
I think he was playing in the Swedish 1st Division when the Grecians signed him ?
