Are you sure it wasn't our very own "AL"-manda - doing some undercover work for HMRC? 😜
Very good G2K 😎
Just reminded me to check my tax code ! Every year I seem to owe something extra & it decreases around September.

Having worked across the road, on the reception desk for a good while, it could offer some entertainment at times. Particularly when a patron wandered in asking if we had a toilet he could use. Officially we didn't but if someone waiting with a tax query was desperate we could escort them through. He did have a tax query as it happened. Can I have your name and book you in to see one of our advisors then. Of course, it's PJ Proby.
Did he want to know if he could claim expenses relating to damaged work clothes (particularly split trousers) ? He was withdrawn from the line-up for a show at the ABC, after splitting too many pairs at earlier gigs.

We need a city orientated pub, scarves on the ceiling, old city photos, old programmes in frames etc… always thought we were missing this in Exe.

St Anne’s Well had old programmes & a few old photos on the wall when it was refurbished in 2016.

Yea it still does have them up you’re right, but it’s the ‘away pub’ normally unfortunately, however I do appreciate the touch. Travelling to various other city’s in the uk and Europe they always have a proper oldschool pub with a massive link to their city’s club, maybe because they’re bigger city’s to be fair. Hopefully we get a city through and through pub landlord at some point although it’s getting harder and harder for boozers nowadays.

The last bastion left standing which featured Exeter's trio of formidable female licensees, along with the Honiton and Welcome Inns.
Joan Ballman ran The Mitre for a few years before taking over The Loco around 1987. Prior to The Mitre she ran The Bystock-Stocks Bar. She would’ve had well over 50 years as a licensee(joint with her 2nd husband Kenny until the early 1990s)

If it opens again, they will have to be careful of the Away Pub tag. Understandable when we play the scum, but when a temporary manager was installed after the licensee did not renew the lease, on a few occasions the door staff said it was for away fans only. I had to put on a sarf east accent on when we played Charlton. The pub is very popular with Grecians on match day. I’ve had great times in there chatting & having a laugh with away fans. Turning Grecians away is not a great idea in the long run just because it’s a designated away pub.

It would be good if there was a themed Grecian pub. Stuart Price who runs Old Timers would be the perfect candidate to run it.

Should you be referring to me I never worked for HMRC. Inland Revenue all those years ago and The Pack Horse was our local

Sad to see the loco go, been popping in for one for many a year before or after games very useful being so close to Central Station in the city and getting the train home.

I guess for me it’s back to the duke for one before or after now.
