A Russian missile aimed at Western Ukraine has instead fallen in Poland killing two people (RIP). There is an emergency meeting of the Polish government underway - cannot see this having anything other than serious repercussions.

This is very serious. I hope there's a strong response.

In theory Poland would be well within their rights to invoke Article 5. They aren't going to got that far but they will respond in a significant way themselves and expect similar from NATO allies in lieu of demanding the war they are entitled to require.

Yes this is enough to invoke Article 5 of NATO but I agree that there will be a response something short of that. it needs to be tough.

This is the problem with wars. Things can go horribly wrong by mistake setting off a chain of events that can get out of control.

Article 5 is not a binary issue of war / not war but could encompass many things in between although in any event it is more likely that Poland will invoke Article 4 (which requires urgent consultations amongst NATO members). Assuming the conclusion is that this was an accident rather than a deliberate attack on Poland there will not be a direct military response. However, this could tip the scales towards providing the few things that have not been provided being 1) Western fighter jets 2) Western tanks and 3) Long range ATACMS missiles which are compatible with HIMARS / M270 MLRS launchers but have thus far not been provided.

There is speculation (based on inconclusive photos of the missile debris) that the impact in Poland may actually be from an S 300 SAM. That is a type operated by both sides and also repurposed by the Russians as a (wildly inaccurate) surface to surface missile. Therefore, there is some possibility that it may actually be a Ukrainian air defence missile which missed when attempting to intercept an inbound Russian missile. Not sure it would make much difference either way - as far as Poland are concerned Russia will still be to blame whether because it was one of their own missiles or because Ukraine is entirely entitled to try and intercept missiles fired by Russia at its civilian infrastructure.

What is going to happen if as reported this missile wasn't fired from Russia ! What if this was captured from Russia by Ukrainian forces and hit Poland.

Would NATO still stick their noses in ? No of course they wont and tbh if it came from Russia they still wont want to get involved.

Between 2010 and 2012, four Iranian nuclear scientists (Masoud Alimohammadi, Majid Shahriari, Darioush Rezaeinejad and Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan) were assassinated, while another (Fereydoon Abbasi) was wounded in an attempted murder. In November 2020, another scientist (Mohsen Fakhrizadeh) was assassinated. ... In 2011 and 2012, Iranian authorities arrested a number of Iranians alleged to have carried out the assassination campaign on behalf of Mossad (the Israeli intelligence service). Western intelligence services and U.S. officials reportedly confirmed the Israeli connection.
