That's true. I see them as seperate mediums but it feels like BBC radio is chasing the podcast listeners rather than concentrating on producing radio content. Radio 5 are playing more and more 1 hour long podcasts during the day/evening which personally annoys me because you can listen to them anytime on BBC Sounds. Every other story during the day seems to be a preview/review about a podcast or an interview with a 'celeb' or podcaster about an upcoming series etc (not to mention all the 'adverts' too)To Tavy's point, I think that particular gap in the market has been filled by specialist sports podcasts.
I'm not anti podcasts. I just think they're very different to radio. But it feels as though management are going "all in" on podcasts to the detriment of radio.
Interesting to see the BBC have announced today they're launching 4 new music stations which seems a bizarre move given the amount of music stations they already have (and the plethora of commercial stations in the same sectors). The only one that makes sense to me is the 'oldie' station. There does seem to be a gap for 50s and 60s music on the radio (Unless I've missed something)

Steve Wright will feature on the new station, which is one of four new networks the BBC is planning.www.bbc.co.uk
