Speaking of Sangiovese, I just drank a 2017 bottle of Brunello di Montelcino from Chateau Costco.

At 18 quid it seems good value. Completely approachable now, opened yesterday night as a pop 'n' pour and it was a little bit muted, but today was showing lovely raspberry and strawberry notes. I think it's probably made by Fattoria dei Barbi if I had to guess. It's a very light style for a Brunello, but it's nice for summer drinking and would keep for another 5 years easily if required.
Makes my homemade sloe look very cheap.

Homemade sloe is delicious though. What base gin did you use?

Not sloe gin. Sloe wine around 12% alc , made three years ago.Been making wine and beer for many many years.Plenty of plums , sloes , apples , elderberries etc going for free round here.When. I lived in Exeter reckoned to make about three hundred bottles a year , used to give a lot away.Comes out about twenty five pence a bottle!
