Is it a Petrol or Diesel engine ?

Oil changes every year regardless of mileage & cam belt replacements as per manufacturers spec is a great help to keeping older motors on the road.
Lots of nonsense about emissions & changing cars because of that issue. The carbon footprint of producing a new car car outweighs keeping a older model on the road apparently.
Petrol. Mk 2, 2007. The only work required in 15 years aside of servicing was a bit on the steering 5 years ago to the tune of £1500 and a replacement dashboard brain last year (£200). Other than that, it's run like a dream. Ah I forgot the replacement door when some fecker hit and ran me. Got it for £25 on eBay down the road, then another £150 to get it fitted.

I still run a 2003 Citroen Saxo(Petrol) I bought it for my son when he was 18 in 2007. When he left to live in Berlin in 2013 I had it as my run about car around town, still got it. Now has 147,000 miles on the clock.
Had a few bits & pieces done on it in the past decade that has cost around £1300 to sort out. Well worth it.
I even took it up to John O’Groats 3 years ago on one of my Scottish jaunts, people thought I was crazy given i have a Lexus 450h GS, but I enjoy driving a basic car with no power steering or anything else for that matter, plus not bothering where I park in a supermarket or service station.

Funny but over the years, aside from a couple of vans as company vehicles early in my working years I’ve never owned a Ford.
Transit or Escort ?

I drove a 1992 transit high top, comfy drive but I was glad I was not paying for the diesel.
I had a Ranger as my last company vehicle, not great tbh. A £30k pickup that was back at the garage within a couple of months. When I mentioned I needed it back ASAP the reply was “Join the queue” !

Best company vans I had were a couple of petr Bedford CFs (PFB 427R, A647RHY) plus oddly given their latter reputation, a 1989 Leyland Daf Sherpa(G383UHU) The latter never let me down.
Sad enough to remember the registrations 😁 They had to be written down every day on the daily timesheets along with the mileage, such was the scrutiny on the old gas industry for costs !

Both were Escorts; one a petrol and the other a diesel. The petrol one especially absolutely flew, the diesel not so much. Mind you, it was the first vehicle that I ever had brand new, not bad for someone in their early 20s back in the 80s!

We still run a ford focus now in its 15th year (as our only car). We said 6 years ago we'd get another car but only once this one died. And it never has, not even come close...it just runs and runs. I'll be devastated when it does die; attached isn't the word.
My brother-in-law feels the same about his Peugeot 307 estate (same age as yours). Substantial mileage, but a nice car.

Meanwhile, my old Rover 214, which I've had for 25 years, goes in for its MOT tomorrow.................

Next door to us runs a 22-year-old Peugeot 206, still going strong. There was a lot of love for them as I recall.

In fact, there was an article out the other day suggesting that for the first time ever, over 40% of the cars out there in the UK are over ten years old. That's partly to do with the current crisis and rising prices, but also increased reliability.

I tell you what though. The best burglar deterent around our way is an old car in the driveway. Next to Peugeot man, 2 doors away, they've got about £250,000 worth of cars sitting on their driveway. Guess who's house gets turned over and who's doesn't? We've not been burgled in ten years, in a street rife with hoods up.

Conversion to a kennel as Plan B in the unlikely event of It not passing.

Here to help.
