Sad to see Jacko go and will always remember Harrogate but football, just like time, moves on. We've progressed and unfortunately, for whatever reason, Jack hasn't quite managed to keep pace. He should still make a decent career for himself in League 2. If he could find himself a position that doesn't expose his lack of pace quite so much would benefit him, maybe moving inside as he has a good touch and is able to move the ball around well. Good luck Jack wherever football may lead you.
Nail on the head there I reckon. Not deemed quick enough for L1.

Why start now? This is the 6th current thread with the title 'Jack Sparkes' - 7th if you also count 'Jack Sparkes and the 1931 Fund'.

Better late than never. :)

Caldwell clearly didn't rate him,so it was only a matter of time before he left.He will enhance whichever L2 wants to pick up his contract. Good luck to him.

When he was breaking in to the first team we were led to believe he could be our next million dollar player which obviously never quite developed. A good player with a wicked left peg on him. Unfortunately a lack of pace and defensive frailties meant his days were always numbered as we look to progress.

I think he'll end up with a L2 side but with more experience can easily hold his own in L1. I wish him all the best and was always pleased to see his name on the teamsheet.

Good memories of him at his best. He hit the post on his debut at Swindon, with a piledriver from distance. We were all on our way up to celebrate when it came rebounding back...

Jack Sparkes praised for his debut performance - News - Exeter City FC

Perhaps not suited to our system of playing with a back 3, gets caught out of position (as does Key) but as we have discussed many times on these boards we haven't really had a decent specialist left back since Woody.

I hope he stays in the EFL and doesn,t have to drop down to far.

I’m sorry to see Jack go.
Obviously (like everyone else in our team) he had areas of his game that weren’t so good.
But, he has a wicked left peg and a bit of tenacity about him.
Plus at just 22 and with almost 150 first team matches already behind him he’s had a terrific start to his career.
If he and/or the club have decided his future is elsewhere then I wish him all the best and think he’ll do well.

it's disappair'd
I have no idea, obviously...

... But I get the sense that he may have been offered something like a one year contract, on the assumption of limited playing time, on low wages.

This is probably about right - he would bring something to the squad as a back up player, but Mitchell is clearly Caldwell's first choice.

He's probably making the right choice - almost certainly more game time, probably on slightly better wages (or a longer contract), at a League 2 club.

As has been mentioned, Sparkes seemed not to be quite the same player after his injury. Nevertheless, he was another admirable product of our Academy, whose qualities going forward mostly outweighed his defensive weaknesses.

Like many have said, his goal against Harrogate was pure magic - & in many ways, season defining for our promotion.

Not really surprising is it, Caldwell’s only been here for five minutes.
