The former was originally broadcast on CBS 1955-59

I believe it was first shown in this country on the BBC in the late 1950s ?

This week 1985

The days when televised boxing was the preserve of the BBC.
Barry McGuigan of Ireland ‘The ‘Clone Cyclone’ has a crack at the WBA World Featherweight Title against Eusebio Pedroza of Panama at Loftus Rd football ground.
McGuigan won on points over 15 rounds.

This week 1988.

The European Championship takes place in West Germany. England had a stinker. Losing all 3 group games against Ireland, Netherlands & Soviet Union.

11th June 1987.

General Election time. Mercifully there were no rolling news channels in those days covering the build up or tiresome leaders debates Just usual Party Political Broadcasts & coverage on the scheduled news bulletins.

A day I remember because it coincided with a Cricket match at Heathcotes Cricket Ground, which was just outside Tiverton at Knighthayes. The Exeter depot v Tiverton Depot for the T.W.A.T * Cup. A great evening with the bar in the clubhouse open between innings.
My first ball bowled was hit to the boundary where the fielder dropped it over the rope for 6 🙁

Acronym is Tiverton Workers Association Trophy 😎
