My issue is with your assertion that the governing party should attempt to appeal to one section of the population on one issue and "no-one else" which does not seem to be a recipe for a functioning, harmonious democratic society.Eh?
Why would either of us want a government that believes in the stuff that the other wanted?
You get that in democracies politics is by definition adversarial?
Democracy is about accepting (with grace) that our own personal world view is not always the majority view.
A concept that you obviously struggle with.
All of a piece with "we won, suck it up" in 2016 whereby any attempt to find a reasonable compromise between the 48% and 52% was dismissed by "democrats" like you as "spitting in the face of 17 million people."
