Eh?
Why would either of us want a government that believes in the stuff that the other wanted?
You get that in democracies politics is by definition adversarial?
Democracy is about accepting (with grace) that our own personal world view is not always the majority view.
A concept that you obviously struggle with.
My issue is with your assertion that the governing party should attempt to appeal to one section of the population on one issue and "no-one else" which does not seem to be a recipe for a functioning, harmonious democratic society.

All of a piece with "we won, suck it up" in 2016 whereby any attempt to find a reasonable compromise between the 48% and 52% was dismissed by "democrats" like you as "spitting in the face of 17 million people."

You’re aware you’ve just binned Sir Kieth because his offer to the country was too broad and didn’t appeal to your quite niche views on the environment?
How does that square with your Government for all the people?
On your last point , it was more a case of “we lost, we want to ignore the winners” than the dynamic you cite. Hence the 2019 GE result?

Anyone else finding the ‘over smiley and ever so earnest’ Ed Davey a bit weird and a tad irritating?
He's like a slightly happier Keith, but without the u-turns. His deputy Daisy Cooper came out with some really wet drivel the other day....along the lines of we can make the world a better place...sick bucket time.

There's a real lack of characters going into this. No Krankie, no Bozza...even Jezza made things quite interesting. I guess it's just a sign of the times.

Farage would absolutely walk it but, given what he's up against, Tice must be laughing into his Horlicks every night. Bring on the debates! Interesting to see that given what he's got to lose, Starmer is shying away from them. That tactic didn't work well for the Maybot.

Why was looking to stay in the customs union and single market "ignoring the winners" ? Dan Hannan, an early architect of Brexit, famously said 'Absolutely nobody is talking about threatening our place in the Single Market.’

As Nick Clegg remarked, the insistence by the Leave side on the hardest of Brexits after such a close vote was the equivalent of Remain saying "Now we've won we're going to join Schengen and the Euro"

Pluralistic democratic politics are about taking the country with you rather than "suck it up, you lost...."

Bring on the debates? The prospect of Starmer and Sunak saying the same things to each other six times over, rather than twice, is not a prospect many will relish. And besides, Starmer, a trained and accomplished lawyer, will wipe the floor with Sunak who is so good at debating he couldn't even defeat Liz Truss

Single market membership would’ve mean’t the continuance of EU FOM.
A rather important issue for many on the leave side if you remember.

Quick question to the clever folk out there - Why is Nigel Farage's name pronounced Fah- Raj like the American pronunciation of garage rather than the British version which is more Ga - ridge?

Sounds French. Some suggestion that he has a distant Huguenot ancestor.
